Saratoga Springs, New York 30 July 2015
Team Contessa came together today, with Winning Move Stable, McConnell Racing Stable and jockey, Javier Castellano to secure Gary Contessa’s first victory of the 2015 Saratoga meet in the second race of the day. The 1 1/8 mile claiming race challenged the runners, as torrential Saratoga rains had turned the track into a mudpit.
The beautiful, three-year-old, chestnut daughter of Eskendereya, out of Stolen Humor (Distorted Humor) started in the 5-hole, and spent most of the race second, behind only Harlen’s Belle. The insanely sloppy track made for lousy traction, and Stolen Victory went back to third a couple of times before the home stretch.
But she rallied and dug in as Castellano saw the opportunity and pulled her resoundingly to the lead, sailing across the finish line by 2 1/2 lengths.
Way to go, Stolen Victory, Winning Move and McConnell–and congratulations, Team Contessa and Javier.
One won…now…let the games begin!
